Our work across the UK
No young person should have to face cancer alone. We work across the four nations of the UK to make sure young people with cancer get the very best care and support, no matter where they are.
England
Teenage Cancer Trust has a specialist unit in almost every major NHS cancer treatment hospital across England, where we fund expert nurses, Youth Support Coordinators and Multidisciplinary Team Coordinators to provide the very best care and support for young people facing cancer.
We fund specialist outreach nurses who work regionally across the country, helping make sure every young person with cancer has access to our expert care, no matter where they are.
And we drive change for young people with cancer through our policy work, in Westminster and as part of the stakeholder group which supports the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer. Read more about our policy work across the UK.
Scotland
In Scotland, we have specialist units at the Royal Hospital for Children and The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow, and at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.
We also fund a national Lead Nurse for Scotland and a Teenage and Young Adult Multidisciplinary Team Coordinator in partnership with the Managed Service Network for Children and Young People with Cancer.
And we work in the Scottish Parliament, and as part of the Scottish Cancer Coalition, to ensure cancer remains a policy priority for the Scottish Government and that the needs of young people with cancer are represented. Read more about our policy work across the UK.
Wales
We have one specialist unit in Wales, at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where we fund four expert staff members:
- Youth Support Coordinator
- Teenage and Young Adult Lead Nurse
- Teenage and Young Adult Multidisciplinary Team Coordinator
- Teenage and Young Adult Outreach Nurse, covering south east Wales
We work in coalition through the Wales Cancer Alliance with other cancer charities in Wales to influence legislation and keep cancer on the political agenda. Read more about our policy work across the UK.
Northern Ireland
We work closely with other charities including The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity, Cancer Fund for Children, Young Lives vs Cancer, and Friends of the Cancer Centre, to ensure young people across Northern Ireland can access age-appropriate specialist support as locally as possible.
Our investment in Northern Ireland includes a contribution towards the salaries of five Teenage and Young Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist posts, in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and in four designated hospitals within the Northern, Southern, South Eastern and Western Health and Social Care Trust.
We’ve also upgraded and funded the enhancement of clinical spaces at Craigavon Hospital, Antrim Hospital, Ulster Hospital and the North West Cancer Centre to improve the physical space for young people during treatment.
And we work with the Northern Ireland Executive and in coalition with other charities to support their work to improve outcomes for young people with cancer and to raise the issues that matter most to them. Read more about our policy work across the UK.
