Tiredness

Sometimes cancer or its treatment can make you feel really tired. Your energy levels can be low and simple everyday things can be harder to do.

Tiredness (fatigue) can make you feel achy, drowsy and more down than usual. Tiredness can be the result of your cancer treatment or of anaemia (when you have a lower number of red blood cells carrying oxygen around the body). You may also feel tired because of problems with eating, pain, or feeling upset or depressed.

Tiredness can affect how much time you can spend at school, college or work; you may need to talk to your teachers or to your managers about creating a practical routine. Planning ahead is important and it’s also good not to try and do too much when you’re feeling really tired.

Things that can help

Getting enough sleep, resting during the day, having as balanced a diet as possible, and doing a little gentle exercise can all help.
