Nomura

Nomura smashes their £100,000 two year target and raises £500,000 in just one year!

Global investment bank Nomura began their partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust in June 2009. The bank, which has headquarters in London, New York and Tokyo, chose Teenage Cancer Trust as its UK charity partner for 2009-2011. Across the two year period, over 4,000 London employees will be involved in special events and bespoke treks and challenges. In the first year alone, employees have far exceeded their two year £100,000 target and have raised £500,000!

Funds raised by Nomura will go towards nine specialist treatment pods on the Teenage Cancer Trust’s day care unit at University College Hospital, due to open in 2012. The pods have been designed to allow young patients to interact with each other during their treatment. These brand new facilities, for which construction began in September 2009, will provide essential day care and support to over 2,000 young people with cancer across London and the South East.

Three Peaks Challenge

Nomura climbers raise over £750,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust

This weekend over 50 employees from Global Investment Bank, Nomura completed the Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours, raising over £75,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust. The fastest team ‘Speedy Peaks’ finished the challenge in an incredible 21 hours and 45 minutes. This was the largest corporate challenge Teenage Cancer Trust has undertaken and the charity is delighted to have trekked with such enthusiastic and inspiring people. This takes Nomura’s grand total to over £570,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust to date.

Anthony Harte, Head of Community Affairs at Nomura and a participant in the challenge said “The Three Peaks was a tremendous success. Team Nomura raised an unbelievable amount of money which will make a difference to young people with cancer. In addition to the money raised, what really impressed me was the incredibly positive way every participant approached the weekend. The humour, camaraderie and encouragement we gave to our fellow team members was really impressive and illustrated what a fantastic teambuilding exercise the event was. I’m sure it will be remembered as one of the best corporate events we have done.”

Funds raised will go towards the construction of a Teenage Cancer Trust unit within the new Day Care Cancer Centre at University College London. Here young people with cancer will receive day treatment and specialised support in an environment tailored to their needs with other young people going through the same cancer experiences. This pioneering facility is due to open in 2012.

10th Anniversary Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall

This year’s shows have been described as the best ever and Nomura’s headline sponsorship of this prestigious event has been a great success. This was the first time that Teenage Cancer Trust secured a week long sponsor for these events and we are delighted with how integrated the partnership was.

Over 50 Nomura employees volunteered at the events, which helped to raise awareness of the partnership as well as much needed funds. It was great to see an additional 700 employees attending the events across the 9 nights, bringing in a further £35,000 in ticket income to the charity. A high profile auction raised £27,500 during the week where Roger Daltrey performed a live acoustic set to Nomura’s key clients and senior staff. We are incredibly proud to have shared this experience with them.
