Loader family & friends outstanding fundraising efforts

Inspired by a Teenage Cancer Trust wristband!

Seeing a display of Teenage Cancer Trust wristbands in 2009 the Loader family & friends decided, we can do that!!

Their initial aim was to sell 100 wrist bands but this goal was so quickly reached another 500 were ordered, and another, and another, until over 2,500 were sold to supporters throughout Hertfordshire, the Loaders’ home county and at Sheffield University, where daughters’ Charlotte and Verity attend.

The outstanding success of the wristband sales led to thoughts of how more money could be raised. Sheffield University students organised a Variety Show displaying their home-grown talents, including a JLS tribute, Single Ladies dance routine, Take Me Out etc. The evening was a sell-out and raised over £3,500.

In June 2010 40 cyclists rode from Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge to Datchworth in Hertfordshire. It was a wonderful day and their arrival provided a grand finale to the Datchworth Village Fete. The intrepid cyclists raised over £22,000.

Other fundraising has included: Cheese & Wine evening, Rock Sunday, Cake Sales, Bungee Jump, Sky Dive, Iron Man Challenge, Three Marathons, The Great North Run, Argy Bargy Show, Handbag sales, Welwyn Wailers Show, Company Donations, School non-uniform days etc.

The final event of 2010 was the End Of Summer Ball at Knebworth Golf Club huge supporters of the Loader fundraising campaign. This sell-out evening, including a 3 course meal, disco, magician, raffle and auction raised over £6,000.

Sheffield Uni, and in particular the Hockey Club, have continued their fundraising, and in 2011 over £5,000 has been raised through various activities, including - Painted Ladies Week, necessitating the girls wearing face paint for a whole week, regardless of what they were doing and where they were going.

Teenage Cancer Trust are indebted to Colin, Julie, Charlotte, Verity and all their amazing friends, relatives, colleagues and corporate supporters for their amazing fundraising efforts on our behalf

RAF Mildenhall raises £854.72 through a bake sale

American Red Cross volunteer Frank DeGeorge, a U.S. Air Force retiree performs as Father Christmas at the RAF Mildenhall post office during intermittent lunch-hours this 2011 holiday season.

DeGeorge is helping to publicise the post office's holiday hours and to support the charity, Teenage Cancer Trust. The trust aims, "to ensure that every young person with cancer and their family receive the best possible care and professional support throughout their cancer journey.

Eilish Murphy Head Shave

On the 18th November this year I was watching a children's programme and saw a story about a young boy who had died of leukaemia. I was really upset and had a good cry, I decided at that moment that I had to help young people who had cancer. I immediately posted on facebook that I was going to shave my head in aid of a cancer charity.

I spent some time discussing with my family which charity would be best, when I found out about the Teenage Cancer Trust I decided this was the one as it helped young people of my age.

I thought that shaving my head was the best thing to do as people with cancer often loose their hair through treatment and I feel very grateful that all I am doing is loosing my hair.

On the 15th of December my head was shaved in the Mall Arndale in Luton. I was a bit nervous but I knew I was doing a good thing and I felt proud that I could do something to help.

So far I have raised just over £1000 which I just can’t believe everyone has been so supportive and I am very grateful to everyone who has made a donation

A message...

‘I am delighted to be involved in a cause as worthwhile as Teenage Cancer Trust and to help them raise funds to build a specialist adolescent unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Cancer is a most devastating disease but when it strikes a teenager it can totally change the course of a young life.

Teenage Cancer Trust will be able to alleviate some of the traumas caused by this illness and we want to help as many young people as we can.’
