Teenage Cancer Trust works hard to make sure that people are aware that cancer affects young people too.
Cancer is often misunderstood as a disease that only affects the old, however six young people are diagnosed with cancer every day. Unless these young people have access to the specialist services provided by Teenage Cancer Trust, many of them will be treated on a children’s or adult ward alongside small children or old people.
As a charity that relies on the voluntary donations of our dedicated supporters, it is vital that as many people as possible know about our work and how they can support us. We work hard to ensure that people know what Teenage Cancer Trust is doing in their area and how they can get involved.
Public awareness campaigns
Our public awareness campaigns seek to educate the general public about how they can take control of their own health. For example, our sun safety campaign has been running since 2004, and was created to address the fact that the incidence of skin cancer has doubled in young people in the last 20 years and sun burn when you’re young can lead to skin cancer later on.
The campaign aims to educate young people about sun safety and we’re careful to make sure it’s always in a non-lecturing tone, speaking to young people in their own language.
