National Cancer Research Institute
Teenage and Young Adult Clinical Studies Development Group
In 2005 the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) set up a special Teenage and Young Adult Clinical Studies Development Group at the instigation of Teenage Cancer Trust and interested professionals from across the UK.
The Group required the resources of a Research Development Manager and since then Teenage Cancer Trust has funded this post.
The Group was created to support and develop research into the optimal provision of health care for young people with cancer. In addition the Group is tasked with expanding the evidence base for the NICE Improving Outcomes Guidance for Children and Young People with Cancer.
A central focus of the Group’s remit is to ensure that teenagers and young adults can participate in clinical trials, especially those generated by relevant NCRI Clinical Studies Groups (CSG).
The Group’s priority areas are:
- Benchmarking clinical trial availability and accrual
- Promoting Health Services Research
- Cancer registration for teenagers and young adults
- Follow-up, late effects and survivorship
- Engaging with CSG/CSDGs to ensure that teenagers and young adults have opportunities to enter relevant trials
