Simon Davies, CEO, Teenage Cancer Trust said:

“It’s encouraging to hear that survival rates for teenagers with cancer have improved however, there is still much to be done to ensure teenagers have as good a chance of survival as any other age group and are recognised as a distinct group with particular needs. Young people contract rarer cancers including brain and bone cancers, where survival rates have not improved for over 20 years.

“Teenage Cancer Trust has been working in partnership with the NHS to develop specialist hospital units which are significantly improving outcomes for young patients, but 60% of teenagers still don’t have access to a Teenage Cancer Trust unit. We are working hard to ensure all young people with cancer receive the best possible care and treatment by additional investment in staff and initiatives to enhance clinical trial participation.”
