The Marylebone Summer Fayre, organised and funded by The Howard de Walden Estate and supporting Teenage Cancer Trust takes place on Sunday 13 June. Now in its seventh year, the Fayre will see the streets around Marylebone Village closed to traffic and filled with market stalls, top quality dance and entertainment and some of the best food and drink in London.

The Blue Zone is the ‘chill out’ zone and has become something of a hidden gem to the Fayre, it is also a focused charity zone for Teenage Cancer Trust. Situated in Paddington Gardens and Paddington Street, it will host al fresco eating, a relaxation area and a festival of live music from The Bedford Bandstand hosted by Tony Moore. A line-up of talented musicians will take to the stage, including Jem Cooke and singer, songwriter Scott McKeon.

With no shortage of hot food, cold food, Pimm’s, Prosecco, Leaf Tea and fine cakes and scones this is the perfect place to make camp after your Sunday morning stroll around the fayre. With a fully equipped children’s playground, picnic lawn and seating this zone has something for everyone.

Teenage Cancer Trust focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer by providing specialist cancer units in NHS hospitals designed to give young people the very best chance of a positive outcome. As well as state-of-the-art facilities to keep patients occupied during long stays in hospital, the units provide an environment where young people can meet others in a similar situation.

Simon Davies, Chief Executive of Teenage Cancer Trust said: ‘We are very grateful to the Marylebone Fayre, and all of the companies involved, for choosing to support Teenage Cancer Trust. The Fayre looks set to be a fantastic day out in London, and every penny raised will help us to ensure that young people with cancer across the UK get the best possible care and support.’

In addition to the funds raised in the dedicated Blue Zone, the Fayre will be running a Text to Donate Competition to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. Three fantastic luxury prize packages are up for grabs, each including a stay at a top London hotel, and dinner for two. Text entry costs £1.50 (plus standard network message charge) and the competition runs from 1st to 20th June 2010.

Notes to Editors:

There’s never a good time to get cancer, but for a teenager the timing seems particularly cruel. Young people can get some of the most rare and aggressive forms of cancer. The emotional upheaval of adolescence can make a cancer diagnosis even harder to cope with.

Every day in the UK, six young people will have to face that diagnosis. Teenage Cancer Trust understands that teenage cancer requires specialist care and in fact, that young people have a much better chance in their fight against cancer if they are treated by teenage cancer experts, in an environment tailored to their needs.

Teenage Cancer Trust builds units in NHS hospitals which improve the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer. But as we receive no government funding, we rely on voluntary donations from people like you. It costs around £2million to build and equip a new unit.

We estimate that with the units we currently have around the UK, only half of the teenagers diagnosed with cancer now have access to this dedicated, specialist support. Our aim is build enough units so that, by 2012, every single teenager with cancer will be treated on one.
