Rock Your Shades for Teenage Cancer Trust
12/04/10
Whatever rocks your world, Teenage Cancer Trust wants you to ‘Rock Your Shades’ on Friday 14 May.
At work, at school, indoors and out, Teenage Cancer Trusts wants you to act like a rock star, strut your stuff and wear your sunglasses with attitude all day. In return, the charity is asking people to donate £1 to Teenage Cancer Trust and help give teenagers the fight and attitude they need to beat cancer.
Actress Ali Bastian and former Strictly Come Dancing 2009 contestant is supporting Rock Your Shades for Teenage Cancer Trust on 14 May 2010: “Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity very close to my heart and I will definitely be participating in ‘Rock Your Shades’. It’s good to know that doing something so simple as paying a £1 to wear your sunglasses either at work, home or school for just one day, that you will be helping more young people throughout the UK fight cancer.”
Teenage Cancer Trust is a UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people with cancer and has a strong rock heritage. With help from The Who’s Roger Daltrey, Teenage Cancer Trust has been staging sell-out annual gigs at the Royal Albert Hall for the last decade. The concerts have become a staple of the music calendar with this year seeing Noel Gallagher, Them Crooked Vultures, Suede, Arctic Monkeys, JLS, The Specials, Depeche Mode and The Who take to the stage over 10 stellar nights.
Every day in the UK, six teenagers are told they have cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust believes that teenagers should not have to stop being teenagers because they have cancer. The charity funds and develops specialist teenage cancer units within NHS hospitals which enable young people to be treated together, by an expert team, in the best possible environment for their needs. Since inception in 1990, the charity has opened a total of 14 units and plans to build enough so that by 2012 every single teenager in the UK that is diagnosed can have access to the support they provide.
Teenage Cancer Trust is also encouraging people to stage ‘Rock Your Shades’ fundraising events on Friday 14th May such as hosting a Rock Star fancy dress party or a “pimp my shades” competition. To make your £1 donation and also to take part in an eBay auction featuring signed sunglasses from Noel Gallagher, Them Crooked Vultures, Arctic Monkeys, The Specials, JLS, The Who, Kelly Jones from Stereophonics, Lemar, Diana Vickers, These New Puritans and Sweet Billy Pilgrim.
