We're delighted to announce that P&O Cruises, our fantastic partners since 2015, has raised £300,000 in support of young people with cancer!
The money has been raised by generous P&O Cruises staff, crew members and guests, and could pay for 10,000 hours of expert, age-appropriate nursing care for teenagers and young adults with cancer. They're not stopping there - P&O Cruises aims to smash its £500k target by December 2020!
P&O Cruises staff have taken part in fundraising initiatives both at head office and on-board, holding events such as foreign coin collections and summer fetes as well as receiving donations from ship visit ticket sales. Team members have also taken on gruelling sponsored challenges such as the London and Edinburgh Marathons.
We've been thrilled to see that guests have been overwhelmingly supportive of the cause, with at least half of the £300k raised through P&O Cruises' Trek the Deck challenge. Guests donate £10 to enter the challenge, a 5km walk around the ship's deck, and get their own specially-designed Teenage Cancer Trust and P&O Cruises Trek the Deck t-shirt.
Launched on just two ships in 2018, Trek the Deck has been so popular with passengers that it's now a year-round feature on the entire fleet!
Laura Pearce, Head of Partnership Management at Teenage Cancer Trust, said:
We are so grateful to P&O Cruises for their continued support, generosity and enthusiasm for our vital cause. This incredible funding boost from P&O Cruises will help us to continue and grow our work with young people diagnosed with cancer in the UK.
