Teenage Cancer Trust is reaching nearly all of young people in the South West

Teenage Cancer Trust is now reaching nearly all people aged 16 -24 diagnosed with cancer in the South West. Five years ago, half of the teenage and young adult cancer patients diagnosed in the South West each year faced cancer without specialist age-appropriate nursing care. To reach the other half, the charity has completed the roll out of its innovative Nursing and Support programme across the region, in partnership with the NHS, which places Teenage Cancer Trust nurses in local hospitals.

Young people, parents and professionals with experience of cancer in young people, debated and agreed on the top 10 research priorities for this area.

Rebecca backs initiative to educate teenagers on the HPV Vaccine

In 2013, Rebecca from Derby was diagnosed with cervical cancer. After her daughter was offered the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination last year, Rebecca needed to explain to her the link between HPV and cervical cancer. Rebecca is now backing the new initiative launched by Teenage Cancer Trust and Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust to educate teenagers on HPV, and how the vaccine and regular screenings can reduce the risk of cervical cancer.


Teenage Cancer Trust provides bright new room for local young cancer patients at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of local supporters, and in partnership with the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Teenage Cancer Trust has transformed the side room on the Yeo Ward with a bright new look for young people with cancer aged 16 – 24. The official opening took place on 25 September, where the ribbon was cut by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Exeter.
