The week is designed to provide an overview into what the construction industry is and the key services and areas that form the industry, i.e. project management, sustainability etc. This was structured well and I found that there were aspects of the industry, which I had not considered or necessary thought were applicable to construction. For example; how important the role of sustainability is. It also provided an insight into some of the developments both completed and present that Mace have been involved in. This gave the opportunity to see practically what the construction industry is about and the different trades.

In partnership with sector leading Mace Group (one of our corporate partners) the programme aims to give young people a chance to gain knowledge about construction career opportunities and develop employability skills as well as workplace confidence and self-esteem.

It’s not all about bricks and hard hats, you can learn more about architecture, commercial management, construction, CV writing & interview skills, design, facilities management, health and safety, IT support, marketing, bids, mechanical & electrical engineering and programme management. The programme is open to anyone within easy reach of London.

The programme will give you a behind the scenes tour of Mace Projects including The Emirates Air Line, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Angel Court and High Point. You will attend interactive workshops to help you learn more about the construction industry.

Three previous work experience attendees secured full time employment following participation on this programme - you could be next!

From a personal aspect I found the culture at Mace during the week to be very friendly, for example; it was easy to approach or ask whoever was leading the session a question, or more information about the topic area. Moreover, everyone was really supportive and they took into consideration how people on the week would potentially be feeling, as I remember a number of us had just or were still under-going some sort of treatment. Furthermore, if I am honest I have excelled as a person since my time at Mace and now work on Europe's largest project, which I would never had thought of being part of a couple years ago!
