I am based in Leeds but we work across Yorkshire and the Humber providing support to young people during and after their cancer journey. My role is to provide support where possible for young people during their cancer journey. We give them an opportunity to get involved in age appropriate activities, workshops and events both on and off the ward. We provide young people with the chance to work in groups to meet and share experiences or on a one-to-one basis.
My favourite part of the job is meeting the young people, building relationships and providing support where I can and knowing that I might do something small that could still make a massive difference.
I'm inspired everyday by our young people. Friends and family often say ‘I don’t know how you do your job’ but the young people keep going everyday… and quite often with smile on their face, and that's how I do my job.
Why Teenage Cancer Trust matters
Teenage Cancer Trust makes a massive difference, being diagnosed with cancer, and then having to spend time away from your family, friends and ‘normality’ must be incredibly difficult. Having the units and facilities that we have, make that time just that bit more bearable and provides the young people with a place where they can still be young people.
Without Teenage Cancer Trust we would be very limited in what we could provide for our young people and a lot of our events and activities wouldn’t be possible.
