The partnership helped fund the creation of Teenage Cancer Trust units across the UK and Ireland and had a transformational impact on our charity at a time of rapid growth of our services for young people. 

Teenage Cancer Trust has really struck a chord with our people across the Group who have gone to remarkable lengths to help raise money and make a difference to the lives of young people affected by cancer in the UK and Ireland. We have worked particularly hard to ensure that our partnership has a lasting legacy in the Republic of Ireland and I am delighted that we have been able to help make this very special unit at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin a reality.

Engagement

Our partnership with Home Retail Group was so successful because we were able to inspire and engage with a wide variety of colleagues across the business, no matter where they were based or what their role. In fact, we’re really proud to say that 65% of their staff, and every single Argos and Homebase store, were engaged in our partnership.

The partnership focused on creating a sense of warmth and fun through national fundraising events such as ‘Get Wiggy With It’, and allowed colleagues to get involved in ways that best suited them.

Volunteers

Thanks to our partnership we were able to massively grow our cohort of volunteers thanks to major recruitment drives for national collections at Argos and Homebase stores across the UK and Ireland.

Payroll givers

By the end of the partnership Teenage Cancer Trust had 183 new payroll givers from Home Retail Group who had given over £10,000.

Fundraising

During our partnership with Home Retail Group there were some fantastic Cause Related Marketing initiatives, including the Homebase Teen Spirit Rose and the best-selling Argos Shamballa Bracelet.

Colleagues were encouraged to be creative, producing a Homebase calendar and a Teenage Cancer Trust cook book. Others ran a full scale mock wedding, football tournaments, Treks, a ‘Take Me Out’ dating event and a human “greyhound” race!

What we can achieve

Our partnership with Home Retail Group has shown that Teenage Cancer Trust has the credentials to manage an industry-leading long term partnership across multiple sites with diverse workforces. In particular we’re able to demonstrate to prospective partners that we can:

  • Manage large scale volunteering initiatives
  • Deliver a packed calendar of innovative and engaging fundraising ideas, keeping it fresh over a sustained period of time
  • Effectively resource a partnership of this scale - fulfilling requests of fundraising materials and merchandise items
  • Engage and inspire a vast and varied workforce and a huge customer base up and down the country.
