Boosters provide reassurance but eligible unvaccinated must play their part

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has advised that booster vaccines should be offered to those more at risk from serious disease, and who were vaccinated during Phase 1 of the vaccine programme (priority groups 1 to 9). This includes all those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19 and adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals.

  • In response to this decision, Dr Louise Soanes, Chief Nurse, Teenage Cancer Trust, said:

“Many young people with cancer continue to feel anxious about the world around them and so today’s decision to offer a Covid-19 booster vaccine to specific groups of people, including some young people with cancer and eligible adults in their household, will provide reassurance and relief.

“If young people have any questions about what today’s announcement means for them, they should speak to a member of their clinical team. In the meantime, the eligible yet unvaccinated can play their part and protect the vulnerable further by taking up the offer of an immunisation.”
