About us

We create world class cancer services for young people in the UK, providing life-changing care and support so young people don't have to face cancer alone.

Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words "you have cancer". They will each need specialised nursing care and support to get them through the toughest times they may have faced.

Q. I just signed up, now what?

Q. How do I get my free T-shirt?

A. We'll send you a T-shirt and after you provide us with your address and T-shirt size.

Q. How long will my T-shirt take to arrive?

A. It will take up to 14 days for your T-shirt to arrive. Please order well in advance of the 17th July and be patient - be assured we will get them to you as soon as possible.

Q. Can under 18s join the Facebook Group?

A. No, sorry. To join the Facebook Group, you need to be over 18. Facebook fundraisers can only be set up by over 18s. If you wish to take part and are under 18 please ask a parent/guardian and fundraise through JustGiving.

Q. Will I receive a medal?

A. We are only sending out a free T-shirt for this challenge. You’ll be able to download a digital medal in the Facebook Group.

Q. How do I raise money?

A. Facebook Fundraisers are the easiest way to raise money. . And then it's simple - just share the page with your Facebook friends!

Q. Can I raise money on Just Giving or another platform?

A. We’d prefer you raise the money through Facebook Fundraisers but if that doesn’t work for you it’s not a problem. But you can set up a JustGiving page if you'd prefer.

Q: Why do I need to change the fundraiser end date to after 17th July?

A: This will allow you to collect donations once the challenge is over, or else your page will expire. A great boost for donations is sharing in your Fundraiser that you have completed the challenge.

Q. I don’t live in the UK, can I still take part?

A. We’d love to have you on board, however, we can’t ship our T-shirt fundraising packs outside of the UK! Join our Facebook group to take part.

Q. Do I have to fundraise?

A. There is no minimum fundraising target but we do encourage participants to to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Then just share the fundraising page with your Facebook friends! You might be surprised by the amount of donations; we really appreciate every penny raised to help young people with cancer.

Q. Can I start earlier than the 17th July?

A. Of course! The challenge day is officially 17th July however, if you would like to do your challenge before that date that is absolutely fine. As long as you challenge yourself, that’s all we ask.

Q. Can I just donate to someone else’s fundraiser and take part?

A. Thanks so much for wanting to be part of the group. We would really love it if you're able to set up your own fundraiser. If you set it up, donate to your own page and share, you'll be amazed at how generous people can be and that way we'll raise more to support young people with cancer.

Q. Can my T-shirt be exchanged?

A. If you received a different size to the one you ordered then we will be able to send you a new T-shirt. Otherwise we will unfortunately be unable to exchange your top. Remember to give us time to get it to you before the 17th July.

Q: Can people donate who don’t have Facebook?

A. Of course, but you’ll have to take the donation directly from them and add it to your own page.

Q. Can my friends donate if they don’t have Facebook?

A. Facebook doesn’t allow people without an account to donate to their fundraisers. If you have connections who’d like to support you but don’t have Facebook, set up a JustGiving fundraising page as well.

Q: Can I create a joint FB fundraiser?

A: Yes, you create the fundraising page and then if you click edit organisers on the fundraiser then you can add your team members. They will then be able to adjust edit the fundraising page and add comments.

Q. Can I upload photos and videos in the group?

A. We love seeing your photos and videos. Just make sure you have the permission from everyone in the photo/video before posting in the group.

Q. How do I upload videos?

A. To share a video on the group you can select ‘share’ at the top of your timeline, timeline sharing will be the default so you will need to select the ‘Skate-a-thon page’ from the dropdown menu. Then click the photo/video button to upload the video from your computer or phone, and you can add a description to the video at the top. Remember, make sure you have the permission from everyone in the video before posting.

Q. Who is moderating the group?

A. Teenage Cancer Trust staff members moderate the group in office hours (9.30am-5.30pm) and from 08.30-21.00 on the 17th July.

Q. Who is Pippa MacBain on the Facebook Group?

A. Pippa MacBain is the Facebook Profile of a few members of Teenage Cancer Trust staff. We created the profile so we can assist you wherever we can!

Q. What are you doing about online safety?

A. Your safety is important to us – we have measures in place to protect your safety, but we know in an online world, you need to be careful. Remember it is better to be extra safe, so if in doubt please do get in contact or report.

To help you be as safe as possible we’ve got clear Facebook Group Rules and our top advice is:

  1. Keep your account details private and don’t give anyone else your login details.
  2. Please don’t include your contact details (address, phone number, other social media profiles etc.) in your profile and don’t give them out within the community.
  3. Please be mindful of you connect with through Facebook. If you’re concerned that someone isn’t who they say they are, or isn’t telling the truth about their cancer experience, please send us a direct message or report them through Facebook. Make sure that you never share your personal details and never give money directly to people you have met through social media platforms.
  4. If you see anything on the community that makes you uncomfortable or that you think is inappropriate, please report it using the report button and we’ll look into it.
  5. Safeguarding children and young people is especially important and this group is for over 18s only. However, if you are concerned about the wellbeing of a child or young person there are great resources online to help you including:

Money and donation matters

Q. Where will my friends' money go?

A. Directly to Teenage Cancer Trust. You don't have to worry about this. It happens automatically.

Q. Can I just raise money offline with a sponsorship form?

Q. How do I pay in offline sponsorship?

A. Please send us your sponsorship forms and cheque made payable to Teenage Cancer Trust to:

Q. I’ve got two fundraising pages; can I combine the two?

A. Unfortunately, there is no current way of merging two Facebook fundraising pages. But 100% of all the money donated on both will go straight to Teenage Cancer Trust. As an alternative you can set one page to expire soon, and post on the other the amount fundraised on your expired page so that you only have one to share, but the totals will not add up.

Q. If someone donations offline/not on my Facebook fundraising page can this be added to my fundraising total on Facebook?

A. No, unfortunately there is no way of doing this. The only way that you could do this would be write a thank you post on your fundraiser to thank the individual. But this would still not add to the total.

Q. Why isn’t a donation showing on my page?

A. If you use the ‘donate’ button on Facebook then the donation will go directly to Teenage Cancer Trust. It will not go on your page. If you would like donations to show on your page you will need to only share your fundraising page link.

Q. Why are my friend's donations not showing on my fundraising page?

A. To check for these donations your supporters will need to contact us, at community.facebook@teenagecancertrust.org, with regards to their donations, with the following:

  • The date they donated
  • The amount they you donated
  • The name of the person’s fundraiser you donated to
  • Please note if you have created a donate button, this will not be connected to a specific fundraising page, so any donations made via this will not appear on your page. If this is the case, we can’t move donations to your page, but you can post in your page the amount that has been donated in relation to your fundraising efforts.

Q. Why is my donation not showing on my friend's fundraising page?

The reason your donation has not appeared on your friend's fundraising page is probably because it was made via a donate button as opposed to a fundraising page. Any money donated via a donate button will go to Teenage Cancer Trust, but donate buttons are not connected to specific fundraising pages, so it will not appear, and we are unable to move it to your friend's fundraising page, but we have still received your donation. What your friend can do is post in their fundraising page that amount that has been donated in relation to their fundraising efforts.

Q. Why have I been charged for my donation?

A. Facebook does not take a fee for donations. This could be a test payment Facebook Pay does to validate the account is real, the deduction should be returned quickly.
