Get ready to tee up for charity with these golf fundraising ideas. From big tournaments to smaller-scale putting contests, find out how to organise a charity golf day with top tips from Teenage Cancer Trust. So, grab those clubs and get out onto the golfing green to support young people affected by cancer.

Charity golf tournament

As the ultimate golf fundraiser, a charity tournament has big potential to get the pounds rolling in for a great cause. Get your local club on board and take over the course for the day, with golfers paying a donation fee to enter the challenge.

Charity golf tournament ideas can include a standard 18-hole game or lots of mini-challenges around the course. Winning should be enough for the proud player with the day’s highest score, but you could approach local companies for prizes – or ask the clubhouse to donate a round of drinks on the house.

Golf-a-thon

Do you love golf enough to keep swinging the club for 12, or even 24 hours? Put your passion for the sport to the test with a day-long golf-a-thon and get sponsorship for the challenge, either as an individual or in a group. Do it at your favourite course, driving range, or mini golf centre.

Hole-in-one challenge

Line up the golfers and see who can hit a hole-in-one. Ask for donations for each shot at the target, ideally set up on a par-three hole.

Crazy golf competition

A mini golf tournament is a great way to bring seasoned golfers and complete amateurs together for a day of putting fun. Find a course to head down to or create your own DIY crazy golf at your local club. Ticket the event and consider taking things up a notch with fancy dress.

Course or hole sponsorship

It’s one of the easiest golf fundraising ideas – ask local businesses to pay to advertise at your course. They get to promote their goods and services while you raise vital funds for teenagers and families affected by cancer.

Golf cart bar

Get behind the wheels of a golf cart for the day and take drinks and refreshments around the course to sell to thirsty players. Donate the proceeds to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Putting contests

Take to the green for a putting contest. Line up the ball around 18 metres from the hole and give golfers two tries to putt, in return for a donation. The player closest to the hole wins. This is a great game for children and novices, too (just reduce the distance between the hole and starting putt accordingly).

Beat the pro

Do you have a superstar golfer at your club? Or perhaps you know a pro. See if you can get them to volunteer for a day and offer players the chance to beat them in a competition in return for a charity donation.

Longest drive competition

See who can hit the ball the farthest with a charity golf driving competition. Whoever has the longest drive wins the day’s golfing crown. It’s one of the simpler golf fundraisers but still provides players with plenty of fun and good fundraising potential.
