Team Area 61, the Tough Mudder team named after the Teenage Cancer Trust specialist unit in Bristol, is made up of local Bristol business employees, teenagers who have benefitted directly from our services, and their friends and family. They'll also be joined by Hannah Lind, the Teenage Cancer Trust Youth Support Coordinator in the South West, and Charlie Porter, our South West Regional Fundraiser
Molly, a former young cancer patient who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2016 when she was 19, has joined Team Area 61. She said:
I wanted to do Tough Mudder for Teenage Cancer Trust as my way of saying thank you to a charity that has done a lot for me throughout my diagnosis and continues to do so. Doing Tough Mudder will definitely challenge me, but I am excited to get stuck in with my teammates and have fun!
Hillevi Moller-Blackwell will also be taking on Tough Mudder with Team Area 61. Hillevi's 22 year old daughter, Elena, was diagnosed with cancer in 2017.
Over the past two years, Teenage Cancer Trust has become the rock that Elena and I lean on. Area 61 is a vibrant place to be at a miserable time and the utterly terrifying world we entered with her diagnosis has been made more bearable because of this charity.
"I am doing Tough Mudder for Teenage Cancer Trust because I had not previously understood how important being in an age-appropriate environment is for a young person going through their cancer journey," explained Hillevi. "Now that I do, I want to raise awareness and money for Teenage Cancer Trust who provide vital services to young people like my daughter during this difficult time in their lives."
Over the past six weeks, Team Area 61 has trained for Tough Mudder with Starks Fitness, Bristol's ultimate small group and personal training gym. Starks Fitness have been holding complimentary sessions for Team Area 61 at their newly opened site at Temple Quay.
Team Area 61 is also being supported by Stagecoach company megabus.com, who'll be providing a free coach service so the team can travel together on the day.
Tony Simmons, Operations Director at megabus.com, said, "We're delighted to be able to support this important charity once again. Last year, we helped transport a group of young people to Glastonbury and this year, we're helping to raise money for this worthy cause. We wish them the best of luck!"
Charlie Porter said:
We'd like to say a huge thank you to Starks Fitness and megabus.com, both amazing supporters of ours, and to all those who have been sponsoring us so far. Everyone has been so supportive and we're really looking forward to taking on this challenge together as a team.
