Imagine being able to count all the students at your school on one hand. That's what life is like for students at Eigg Primary School - with just five pupils, it's one of the smallest schools in the UK.
But a small school doesn't mean small ambitions: two of Eigg Primary's students organised a fundraising day for Teenage Cancer Trust at the start of July which has so far raised more than £2000!
Eigg, an island off the west coast of Scotland, has a population of just 87 people. Eigg's nine year old fundraisers were inspired to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust because of the support we've offered Niamh, a teenager from the island and big sister to one of the students, during her treatment. Their amazing day of fancy dress, tasty treat sales and lots of other fun activities brought the island together and, with the support of Eigg, they've smashed their original target of £100.
Fiona Cain, Local Fundraising Coordinator at Teenage Cancer Trust, said:
We were so touched to hear from Eigg Primary School that two of their pupils were organising a fundraising event. Their teacher set up a JustGiving Page with a target of raising £100 which reached £1000 before the event even took place!
