In 2011 I decided to organise a large charity fundraising ball and invite my business contacts and clients. I’d been introduced to Teenage Cancer Trust by a friend in 2009, and as I’d lost a friend to leukaemia when I was young I decided to support the charity.

The ball was held in October 2011 and raised £11,500 for Teenage Cancer Trust. At the same time the local regional fundraising manager for Teenage Cancer Trust was looking to pull together a committee of business people in the north east that would canvass the Trust and help raise both awareness and money. The fundraising manager asked if I would consider chairing and pulling together a committee of individuals on that basis. In April 2012 the first Teenage Cancer Trust North East Board meeting was held and since then we have raised over £175,000.

It’s easy in life to wear yourself down with all of the little problems and issues that occur. Supporting Teenage Cancer Trust helps me realise how important life is and that helping others makes a real difference.
