Dr Louise Soanes, Director of Services at Teenage Cancer Trust, said:

“The new service specifications for children and teenage and young adult cancer services will be a great step forward for improved cancer services for young people. We now have a green light for these to be implemented and will be working in partnership with the NHS to deliver the best services possible.

“Professor Sir Mike Richards today reported to the NHS England Board on his review into children’s cancer services, thoroughly looking at issues around access to intensive care. Teenage Cancer Trust has advocated to prioritise patient safety and experiences of care throughout this process. Professor Richards’ recommendations support our call for intensive care to be a core part of services at Principal Treatment Centres.

“We’re pleased patient and clinician views have been taken on board, and we’ll continue to monitor the next steps on delivery, which must be handled sensitively to ensure continuity of patient care.”
