A sponsored walk along the Leeds to Liverpool, the north’s longest canal at 127 miles, with my dog and my ukulele.

Description

Starting from Alder Hey, Liverpool and finishing in Leeds St James’s taking a route along the oldest and longest canal in the north. I will walk with my dog Bessie and play my ukulele all 127 miles of it. I will walk in three stages in May and June. I would like to raise as much money as I can to help young people living with cancer find their strengths and talents through music and outdoor activities.

Liverpool to Wigan via some lovely people…

There is no better way to meet people than walking. Setting off from Liverpool it could have felt a bit bleak but thanks to mum and dad for meeting us off the train and seeing us on our way at Eldonioan Village, the start of the canal, with some sarsaparilla sweets and doggy treats to fill my pocket.

The walk to Aintree was hard as both Bessie and myself were tired from the travel from London but was made cheerful by chatting along the way with a fisherman who fished out a small donation for TCT, thank you, hope you caught something other than plastic bottles.

At Aintree, after a trek through the race course we stayed at the Church View Guest House where the warm hearted Dorothy gave a small donation in return for a tune on the old ukulele.

Full of a good breakfast and a sausage for Bessie, we headed to the Rufford branch along what was becoming increasing more lovely countryside.

Small donations made along the way without me asking, people just automatically dug in their pockets when they heard why I was walking.

A fantastic and well earned pint at the Ship, Burscogh, a big dinner for Bessie, an amazing nights sleep at Heskins Farm (and another donation) and we were off to Wigan Pier.

It’s been a good start, thanks to all the well wishers along the way, will keep you posted…x
