Currently for every young person with cancer we reach in Northern Ireland, there’s another we can’t. We’re working to ensure young people across Northern Ireland can access age-appropriate specialist support as locally as possible. This is being done in collaboration with Children’s Cancer Unit Charity, Cancer Fund for Children, CLIC Sargent and Friends of the Cancer Centre.
We’re investing around £170,000 per year in Northern Ireland, including:
- A contribution towards the salaries of 5 TYA Clinical Nurse Specialist posts in the Belfast Royal Sick Children’s Hospital and in four designated hospitals within the Northern, Southern, South Eastern and Western health and social care trusts
- Refurbishment of the adult haematology inpatient and outpatient areas at Craigavon Hospital, and upgraded spaces in the other designated hospitals
- Delivery of our Education and Awareness Programme in schools throughout Northern Ireland
