Support our work

The unit was opened in March 2014. Design expertise was provided by Teenage Cancer Trust and enhancements of this unit were jointly funded by Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Teenage Cancer Trust fund two expert staff at the unit:

  • Lead Nurse for South West
  • Youth Support Coordinator

They make sure the best possible care is given so that patients are treated as young people first, cancer patients second.

Support in the South West

Our two specialist facilities in the South West are based within the centre of excellence at Bristol. Some young people may choose to be treated in their local hospital, and we want to make sure that they can still receive the best support and clinical care possible.

From the centre of excellence in Bristol, our Teenage Cancer Trust Lead Nurse and Youth Support Co-ordinator work with five Teenage Cancer Trust Teenage and Young Adult Clinical Nurse Specialists based across the region. These nurses are funded by the local commissioners and we have affiliated them with Teenage Cancer Trust providing professional support and training. They champion the needs of young people with cancer and provide specialist expertise and care in local hospitals.
