How to organise a Sports Day fundraiser
Sports days aren’t just for kids! At home, at school, at the park or even in the office – this is the perfect way to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust while having loads of fun.

Planning your event
- Find a suitable location – the local park, your garden or at work.
- Set the date – avoiding any clashes with major events.
- Send invitations out and spread the word (it doesn’t have to be anything fancy – a text message will do the job). Make an event on Facebook, post on Instagram or your work intranet or create a poster to create a buzz.
- Plan your fundraising – set up a JustGiving page to take online donations and get in touch if you need a collection tin.
- Register your fundraising with us – by completing this form to get a fundraising pack.
Sports Day games
Pick your sports! If team games are your thing, how about a cricket or rounders match? If you’re in the office, try speed typing, synchronised chair swivel or paper plane throwing. Or if a traditional sports day is more your thing, here’s a reminder of some classic contests:
- Egg and spoon race
- Wheelbarrow race
- Tug of war
- Sack race
- Space hopper race
- Limbo
- Obstacle course
- Three-legged race
- Skipping race
- Relay
- Beanbag shot put
- Water race
On the day
- Provide refreshments – either include these in the ticket price or sell drinks and snacks to top up your fundraising. Ask local businesses to donate these for free to keep your costs down.
- Give prizes – have a reward for whoever wins each game, or an overall winner at the end. Again, see if you can source these for free – many firms are keen to support charities in this way.
- Hold a raffle – just make sure you comply with the rules and regulations.
- Take photos – we’d love to see pictures, and don’t forget to share on social media to increase donations.
- Have fun – if everyone has a blast, why not make it an annual event?
- Raise loads of money – we are sure your event will be a great success. Once your fundraising is complete, pay in the money you’ve raised.
