Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh
The Teenage Cancer Trust unit on the Lochranza Ward at The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh is for 13-16 year olds and has four inpatient bedrooms plus an isolation bedroom and a day care ward. All bedrooms are equipped with comfy soft furnishings, TV and gaming. We also provide free wifi.
On the unit, you’ll be looked after by a friendly, expert team including nurses and youth workers who specialise in supporting teenagers and young adults with cancer.
You’ll also meet plenty of other experts in different areas of cancer treatment, such as doctors, dietitians and physiotherapists. You might hear this being called the multidisciplinary team, or MDT for short.
If you’re an inpatient, this means you’ll stay on the unit overnight, sometimes for several nights at a time depending on your health and the type of treatment you’re having.
You might also visit the day care ward as an outpatient, which means you’ll go in during the day for treatment and other appointments, but won’t stay in hospital overnight.
