Together with CLIC Sargent, we have found inconsistencies across the UK. Some appointments can be done virtually with family members present; meanwhile other young people have to go to hospital alone.

The coronavirus pandemic has been tough for everyone but especially young cancer patients, which is why Teenage Cancer Trust and CLIC Sargent will be looking to work with the NHS on this issue early in 2021. The charities will be working in partnership to make sure hospital trusts prioritise allowing young cancer patients to have a companion where appropriate, to help reduce the risk of confusion, fear and isolation.

If you are under the age of 25 and have had to go into hospital alone due to coronavirus restrictions, be sure to speak to your clinical care or social care team for support and advice.
