Leeds General Infirmary
The Ward 33a Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Leeds General Infirmary is for 13-18 year olds and includes an 8 bedded bay, with an additional 4 single ensuite beds on Ward 33b for bone marrow transplant patients. All bedrooms are equipped with comfy soft furnishings, TV, gaming and dedicated Teenage Cancer Trust wifi.
On the unit, you’ll be looked after by a friendly, expert team including nurses and youth workers who specialise in supporting teenagers and young adults with cancer.
You’ll also meet plenty of other experts in different areas of cancer treatment, such as doctors, dietitians and physiotherapists. You might hear this being called the multidisciplinary team, or MDT for short.
If you’re an inpatient, this means you’ll stay on the unit overnight, sometimes for several nights at a time depending on your health and the type of treatment you’re having.
You might also visit as an outpatient, which means you’ll go in during the day for treatment and other appointments, but won’t stay in hospital overnight.

Everything on the unit is designed to help you feel more comfortable and in control, to connect with others your age going through cancer too, and to keep up with friends, studies and everything that’s important in your life as a teenager.
The social area features graffiti artwork of Leeds skyline to help create a ‘home from home’ experience and a feeling of familiarity.
Family and friends are welcome to visit, and there’s space for parents or carers to stay over. Facilities include:
- 4 bed bay
- 4 single en-suite
- There are also 4 single en-suite bone marrow transplant beds on Ward 33b
- Recreational room
- Outside courtyard
- Quiet room
- Parents’ room
