How to fundraise
Find out about the best fundraising ideas for you with this guide to bringing in money for charity.
Why fundraise for charity?
Firstly, let’s talk about why charity fundraising is so important. Charities like Teenage Cancer Trust rely on support from fundraisers like you. Without this, we simply couldn’t continue the life-changing work we do for young people and families affected by cancer.
Every day, seven 13 to 24-year-olds hear the words: “You have cancer”. And our cause is the only one in the UK dedicated to ensuring that these young people get the specialised nursing care and support they need. By fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust, you’ll be having a direct impact on the lives of those who so heavily rely on our unique and vital services.
What are the best fundraising ideas?
This really depends on the time you have to give, your skillset and the things you’re passionate about. There’s no catch-all answer to the question of how to fundraise best. There are so many different ways to raise money for charity and, no matter the idea you choose, you’ll be bringing in vital funds for young people with cancer.
Some people might choose to take on a fundraising challenge, while others might want to organise a charity event. Or perhaps you’re looking for something extreme, wacky or out of the ordinary to show your support for Teenage Cancer Trust? Sometimes, fundraisers want to make a big impact fast or are short on time and cash, so need an easy, cheap or free way to support charity.
Ways to support charity can be unique, or trusted fundraising event ideas like coffee mornings or pub quizzes. Sometimes the most obvious ideas are best. And that’s often the case in education where the school fundraisers that make the most money are normally the traditional annual fete or popular non-school uniform days.
Raising money for charity ideas can also span many different sports, from football to golf. Or tie in with seasonal celebrations like Halloween or Christmas.

We support young people in 28 specialist cancer units inside NHS hospitals across the UK, which are staffed by specialised nurses and youth workers dedicated to helping those that need us. But they don’t feel like hospitals, they’re specially designed spaces to make young people and families affected by cancer share special time together with the support they need.
Teenage Cancer Trust also runs events for young people across the country, online and in person. And we provide easy-to-understand information about every aspect of living with cancer as a young person.
