SFB Events celebrated their Silver Jubilee at their 2019 Sci-Fi Ball at the Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton in February. The event was started 25 years ago and has been bringing together sci-fi enthusiasts on the South Coast ever since.
Not only were the team celebrating this milestone but they were also marking a decade of support for young cancer patients.
Over the past 10 years, the Sci-Fi Ball has raised a staggering £56,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust.
Amanda and Louise from the South East Regional Fundraising Team attended the silver themed black tie dinner at the Ball, accompanied by Ben Berry, who was diagnosed with and went through treatment for cancer when he was younger. Ben gave a fantastic speech about his cancer journey after dinner, which was really well received by all the guests.
"We couldn't be more grateful to Anne, Brett, James, Andrew, and the whole team at SFB Events," said Amanda.
When they began to support us we didn't even have any facilities for young cancer patients in the local area, back when we were raising money to build our unit at Southampton General Hospital. 10 years later and, with the help of SFB Events, we now have a wonderful state-of-the-art unit in Southampton and are rolling out our nursing outreach services across the region. This remarkable achievement across a decade wouldn’t have been possible without local supporters like SFB Events.
The Sc-Fi Ball always boasts a number of celebrity guests from the sci-fi world, with this year's attendees including Sean Pertwee (Gotham), Terry Molloy (Doctor Who) and Gigi Edgly (Farscape). Guests also got to see lots of incredible costumes and iconic props, including the TARDIS!
