University College Hospital London
We have three Teenage Cancer Trust spaces at University College Hospital London: T12, the Young Adult unit and Young Adult Waiting Lounge in the Proton Beam Therapy Centre.
T12 ward
The T12 ward is for 13-19 year olds and has 20 in-patient beds. All bedrooms are equipped with comfy and cosy soft furnishings, bespoke furniture, TV, DVD and gaming facilities. We also provide free Teenage Cancer Trust Wifi and laptops.
Teenage Cancer Trust funds three expert staff at the T12 ward:
- Nurse Consultant for London
- Two Youth Support Coordinators
They make sure each young person having treatment on our ward gets the best possible quality care and is treated as a young person first, cancer patient second.
T12 was fully refurbished in November 2016.
Facilities at the unit
- One five-bed bay and one four-bed bay
- Recreation room
- The Sanctuary counselling/meeting room
- Parent’s room with kitchenette, dining area, soft seating and free vending machine
Young Adult Unit
On the third floor of the Grafton Way building is a nominated six-bed in-patient unit for young adults aged 20-24, on a larger adult haemotology ward. Teenage Cancer Trust has designed a social space on this ward so young people having treatment can chat with others their age going through similar experiences.
We fund a Youth Support Coordinator based on the young adult unit who ensures all young adults are treated as the individuals they are.
Young Adult Waiting Lounge in the Proton Beam Therapy Centre
Within the Proton Beam Therapy Centre is a dedicated young adult waiting lounge, equipped with a range of age-appropriate games and activities, for young people and their families to use before treatment.
